Thyroid Health with a highlight on Hashimoto’s
Seems like so many people we speak with have thyroid issues. One that seems to be the most common is Hashimoto’s.-Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis (HT) is a common autoimmune disease in the U.S. and around the world.
-Named after the Japanese surgeon who discovered it in 1912-Involves a chronic immune reaction to thyroid antigens, which results in lymphocytic infiltration of the gland and progressive destruction of thyroid tissue.
-HT causes the majority of cases of hypothyroidism in the U.S.-Primarily affects middle-aged women but can occur in men and women of any age as well as children.
-This is significant since approximately 5 % of the U.S. population ages 12 and older has Hypothyroidism.
