Do you feel like you’re constantly under pressure? Do you feel like you can’t escape the stress of your job, your family, or your life in general? If so, you’re not alone. Stress is a part of modern life, and it’s something that we all have to learn how to deal with.

One of the most important things to remember about stress is that it’s not all bad. A little bit of stress can actually be a good thing. It can help us to stay alert and focused, and it can give us the motivation to get things done. The key is to learn how to manage your stress so that it doesn’t become overwhelming.*†

There are 3 Main Types of Stress: Physical, Emotional, and Mental.

1. Physical stress is the type of stress that you can feel in your body. It can be caused by things like poor posture, sitting or standing for long periods of time, repetitive motions, and carrying heavy loads.

Physical stress can also be caused by illness, injury, or lack of exercise. Environmental factors like heat and cold can also impact physical stress levels.

Common signs of physical stress are: aches and pains, high blood pressure, and weak immune response.

2. Emotional stress is the kind of stress that comes from our thoughts and feelings. It can be caused by things like worry, fear, or sadness.

Our relationships with other people can also be a contributor to how we feel emotionally, situations like arguments, deadlines, or family problems are some possible events that could influence emotional stress levels.

Common signs of emotional stress are: heaviness in the chest, jaw clenching, or teeth grinding.

3. Mental stress is the type of stress that affects our thoughts and how we process information. It is often triggered when we experience something new, unexpected that threatens our sense of self, or when we feel we have little control over a situation.

It can be caused by things like decision-making, multitasking, or problem-solving. Some situations might make you feel worried, fearful, or full of self-doubt.

Common signs of mental stress are: anxiety, depression, and irritability.

Each type of stress has its own unique symptoms, here are some general signs that you're stressed out:

  • You feel anxious, irritable, or on edge*

  • You have trouble sleeping*

  • You feel tired all the time*

  • You have trouble concentrating or remembering things*

  • Your appetite changes (you either lose your appetite or you start eating more)*

  • You get sick more often*

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s important to talk to your doctor. Stress can wreak havoc on your overall health, so it’s important to find ways to manage it.

Tips on Managing Stress

There are many ways to manage stress and support healthy adrenal glands. Some simple tips include:*

  • Deep breathing: Stop – take a few deep breaths to calm your heart rate and your mind can take the pressure off you right away. You’ll be amazed at how your mood might improve once you get good at it.*†

  • Eating healthy: Eating nutritious foods helps your body to cope with stress. Make sure to include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your diet.*†

  • Exercising: Exercise releases endorphins, which help to reduce stress levels. A moderate amount of exercise is the key to maintaining healthy stress levels.*†

  • Taking breaks: When you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a few minutes to yourself to relax and rejuvenate. Take a hot bath, read your favorite book, or take a walk outdoors.*†

  • Stop being so hard on yourself: We can’t be perfect all of the time, so stop holding yourself to unreachable standards. Let yourself off the hook and be willing to laugh and enjoy life – don’t take yourself too seriously.*†
